Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) announces the casting for the final production of the Nutmeg Summer Series: Newsies with Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and book by Harvey Fierstein.

Tony Award-nominee Christopher d'Amboise will be both directing and choreographing this theatrical adaptation of the Disney movie. The cast stars Jim Schubin (Jack Kelly), Tyler Jones (Crutchie), Richard R. Henry (Joseph Pulitzer), and Tina Fabrique (Medda Larkin).

Newsies runs July 6-16 and tickets are on sale at crt.uconn.edu or 860-486-2113.

Set in the heart of New York City, Newsies tells a fictionalized story inspired by the real events of the Newsboy Strike of 1899. Although rooted in the past, the show explores topical themes of social injustice, exploitive labor, and the true power the Davids of the world can wield against the Goliaths.

Director and choreographer Christopher d'Amboise has created numerous ballets for international companies alongside having written, directed, and choreographed The Studio. He began his career as a principal dancer in the New York City Ballet. d'Amboise received a Tony Award Nomination for Best Featured Actor for his performance in the Broadway cast of Song and Dance. He last choreographed My Fair Lady at Connecticut Repertory Theatre.

d'Amboise said, "I grew up watching my father in movie, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and always wanted to direct a show full of lots of men dancing wildly. Newsies is that show. I am also attracted to the show's themes of embracing alternative families and the romantic notion of loyalty to friends above personal gain. Newsies is a coming of age story that we can all relate to while watching a bunch of men dancing their tails off!"
