Jan Leigh Herndon heads the cast of TriArts Sharon Playhouse's production of 42nd Street, running June 23- July 10. Herndon, who has been seen on Broadway in A Chorus Line (Shelia) and La Cage aux Folles, plays Broadway Star Dorothy Brock. She is joined by Mark Epperson as stage director Julian Marsh, Jenny Piersol as chorus girl with the chance to be a star Peggy Sawyer, and Graham Keen as tenor Billy Lawlor. DJ Salisbury directs, with choreography by Kate Vallee. Michael Berkeley is musical directing and conducting the live 8-piece orchestra.
42nd Street, the classic backstage tale of the creation of a musical during the Great Depression, features music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Al Dubin and book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble. Based on the Warner Brothers film of the same name, the show is a celebration of Broadway and show people. Popular musical selections from the score include "You're Getting to be A Habit with Me," "We're in the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and "Shuffle Off to Buffalo." The show has enjoyed two successful runs of Broadway - in 1980 when it won the Tony Award for Best Musical and then again in 2001 when it won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical.
Rounding out the cast are Bill Morris as Abner Dillon, John Champion as Pat Denning, Thom Webb as Bert Barry, Jessica Ferraday as Maggie Jones, and Rachel Perin as Annie Reiley. Members of the ensemble are Jonathan Basla, Rebecca Brunelle, Amber Cameron, Mary Beth Donahoe, Kaitlyn Frank, Kiley Hinkle, Alex Hoff, Rebecca Kostell, Amy Van Norstrand, Kevin Michael Raponey, Trevor Sideris, and Sean Zia.
The production team includes scenic designer Erik Diaz, costume designer Keith Schneider, lighting designer Chris Dallos, and sound designer Graham Stone.
