The Hartt School, the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford, is pleased to present 'Bang on a Can All-Stars' on Thursday evening, December 9, 2010, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus. Individual concert tickets are $30 and Series subscriptions are $100, with discounts on individual tickets and subscriptions for seniors, educators, University of Hartford alumni, students, and groups.
The second concert in the 2010-2011 Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series, this performance features 'Bang on a Can All-Stars', the internationally celebrated new-music group whose every concert is a unique event. The six-person ensemble performs to cheering audiences all over the world. Ashley Bathgate
Ashley Bathgate has performed worldwide as both a classical and contemporary musician and has been hailed by critics as a "brilliant, rising star." Robert Black's interests range from traditional orchestral and chamber music to solo recitals, collaborations with actors, music with computers, movement-based improvisations with dancers, and live action-painting performances with artists. He has commissioned, collaborated, or performed with musicians from John Cage to D.J. Spooky, Elliott Carter to Meredith Monk, Cecil Taylor to Paquito d'Rivera, as well as many young emerging composers.
His recital activities frequently take him to five continents and he has appeared at major festivals (Takefu International Music Festival, Japan; Festival de Eleazar Carvalho, Fortalzea, Brazil; Colombo-Catalan Festival, Medellin, Colombia; Helsinki Festival, Finland; NYYD, Estonia; etc.), on radio and television broadcasts (Asia Live, Singapore, VPRO, Holland; NPR, United States; CBC, Canada; etc.), and as an artist-in-residence (American Center, Paris; the Banff Centre, Canada; Studio P.A.S.S., NYC). Vicky Chow
Canadian pianist Vicky Chow has performed extensively as a classical and contemporary soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble member, and has been hailed as ‘brilliant' by the New York Times (Anthony Tommasini).
Ms. Chow made her orchestral debut at the age of 10 with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Since, she has appeared with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard Symphony, The Vancouver Academy Orchestra, White Rock Festival String Orchestra, and the B.C. Sinfonietta. She has performed under numerous conductors, including George Manahan, James Conlon, JoAnn Falleta, Bramwell Tovey, Victor Feldbrill, and Jeffrey Milarsky. As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with New York Philharmonic flutist Renee Siebert and Metropolitan Opera soprano Janet Hopkins at the Desert Chamber Music Society and cellist Andre Emelianoff of the Da Capo Chamber Players. David Cossin
David Cossin is a specialist in new and experimental music, and has worked across a broad spectrum of musical and artistic forms to incorporate new media with percussion. David has performed as a soloist with orchestras through out the world including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra Radio France, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sao Paulo State Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony, Hong Kong Symphony, and the Singapore Symphony. Evan Ziporyn
Evan Ziporyn has toured the globe with the All-Stars since 1992. He is also founder and Artistic Director of Gamelan Galak Tika, a Boston-basEd Balinese music and dance troupe devoted to new works by American and Balinese composers. With Galak Tika, he has presented his groundbreaking Balinese/Western fusion works in venues as diverse as New York's Zankel Hall and the Balinese International Arts Festival. Celebrating its 60th year, the New York Woodwind Quintet is one of chamber music's most honored and venerable ensembles. Each of the Quintet's members is an established artist in his or her own right and the group's bassoonist, Marc Goldberg, is a long-time member of the Hartt faculty.
