Hartford Stage announces their Summer Studio 2014 youth education programs. Young actors ages 3-17 can join Hartford Stage teaching artists for full day or half day classes in one, two or four week programs in multiple disciplines including acting, dancing, creative movement, theatre games, and arts and crafts. All classes take place at Classical Magnet School, 85 Woodland Street, Hartford.
Register by April 1, and save up to $50 off registration. Returning students are eligible for a 10% discount on all classes.
Summer Studio Youth Ensemble
Summer Studio Youth Ensemble runs July 7-August 1, (with performances on August 2) from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. for ages 9-15. Students are cast in either a musical (Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr.) or non-musical (Some Treasure Island!) production. Students spend mornings rehearsing and afternoons exploring elective classes of their choice. Once a week, the Youth Ensemble enjoys a field trip together.
Summer Studio Children's Cast
Summer Studio Children's Cast Session One runs July 7-18, and Session Two runs July 21-August 1. Both sessions take place from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. for ages 5-8. Students will take classes in story theatre, creative movement, music, puppetry, and arts and crafts. Students will also go on weekly field trips. Each session ends in a mini-production that the cast creates based on favorite stories and characters.
Teen Musical Theatre Intensive
Teen Musical Theatre Intensive runs July 14-25, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. for ages 14-17. Become a triple threat! Classes in acting, singing and dancing will lead to a final musical revue performance featuring Broadway favorites!
One-Act Play
One-Act Play runs August 4-15, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. for ages 9-15. Young actors will hone their skills with training in the basics of acting and improvisation, working toward a production of Good Good Trouble on Bad Bad Island.
Day Dreamers
Day Dreamers Session One runs July 7-11, and Session Two runs July 14-18. Both sessions take place from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. for ages 3-5. Our youngest artists will enjoy a half-day of creative movement, music, story theatre, and puppet play!
Summer Bookends
Summer Bookends Session One runs August 4-8, and Session Two runs August 11-15. Both sessions take place from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. for ages 5-8. Complete the summer with drama and fun! Students will explore literature from summer reading lists through acting, musical theatre, creative movement, and arts and crafts.
