HARTFORD CHILDREN'S THEATRE (360 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT) will hold open auditions for CINDERELLA EATS RICE AND BEANS: A SALSA FAIRY TALE, the second production of its 20th Anniversary Season: "The Year of Enchantment," on Friday, November 20 from 6 - 9 p.m. and Sunday, November 22 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Performances of CINDERELLA EATS RICE AND BEANS: A SALSA FAIRY TALE will take place at HCT's Carriage House Theatre January 15 - January 31, 2010. The contemporary Latin-American musical will be directed by Joshua Lee Ramos with musical direction and choreography by Carolyn Paine.

CINDERELLA EATS RICE AND BEANS is a contemporary, Latin-American Cinderella musical that delightfully turns the classic fairy tale on its head, telling the story from both Cinderella and her stepsisters' perspectives. Cinderella, a newcomer from Puerto Rico, comes to the United States to visit her stepsister Rosa. When the two girls discover that Cinderella only speaks Spanish and Rosa only speaks English, they are forced to come to an understanding for the good of the (basket) ball game. With a fairy godfather and other delightful twists to the original story, CINDERELLA EATS RICE AND BEANS is a groundbreaking new children's musical that crosses language and gender barriers while weaving in a subtle lessons on empathy, sportsmanship and respect.
