From the director that brought you Singin' in the Rain and 42nd Street this year's season opener will be My One And Only: ‘S Wonderful! ‘S Marvelous! The glamorous ‘20s come roaring back to life when a barnstorming aviator falls for a bathing beauty. Their romantic pursuit is sidetracked by a series of zany escapades but together they navigate their way to a happy ending. This tap dance spectacular with an incomparable Gershwin score - "'S Wonderful," "Funny Face," "Kickin' The Clouds Away" and more - will have you floating on air!
My One and Only features Music by George Gershwin, Lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and Book by Peter Stone and Timothy S. Mayer. This production will be directed by Ray Roderick who returns to Goodspeed where he directed Singin' in the Rain, 42nd Street and Double Trouble in 2001. Roderick's other credits include Associate Director of the 2001 Broadway revival of The Music Man. My One And Only will be choreographed by Kelli Barclay who returns to Goodspeed where she previously choreographed the sensational How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and worked as Associate Choreographer on Lucky In The Rain and George M!. Kelli's Broadway credits include Associate Choreographer of 42nd Street, White Christmas and State Fair. This production will be sponsored by Bank of America.
Come aboard for an epic American musical! A sweeping tale spanning four decades, Show Boat is a journey into the lives, loves and heartbreaks of three generations of show folk on the mighty Mississippi River. Jerome Kern's masterpiece is a treasure trove of unforgettable music including "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," and "You Are Love." Don't miss this timeless triumph of the Broadway stage!
Show Boat features Music by Jerome Kern and Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, based on the novel by Edna Ferber. This production will be directed by Rob Ruggiero of Goodspeed's audience favorite 1776, Big River, Camelot and last season's Annie Get Your Gun. Rob Ruggiero has directed numerous productions during his tenure as Associate Artistic Director of Hartford's TheaterWorks and will bring his drama High starring Kathleen Turner to Broadway this Spring. The choreographer will be Noah Racey, who previously choreographed Goodspeed's Annie Get Your Gun. Show Boat will be sponsored by Webster Bank and Comcast.
Swinging, sexy , smart, and funny! City of Angels is an ingenious spoof of 1940s Hollywood and whodunit films with side-by-side stories about the "real" world of a detective fiction writer and the "reel" world of his fictional gumshoe hero. One balances romance and rewrites, while the other slinks through a film noir netherworld of thugs and femmes fatales. Winner of tons of Tony Awards, it's a witty detective thriller with a jazzy score that really kills.
City of Angels has music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart. This jazzy musical comedy will be directed by Darko Tresnjak who directed Goodspeed's Amour , A Little Night Music, and Carnival! . He has teamed up once again with Peggy Hickey whose choreography wowed Goodspeed audiences in Brigadoon, On the Twentieth Century, and Carnival!. City of Angels will be sponsored by Liberty Bank and Connecticut Light & Power.
