The New Milford Historical Society and TheatreWorks New Milford have teamed up to bring Cocktails and Cabaret 2016 to local residents. This event will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm. All profits will be split between the organizations to support much needed capital projects.

Ted Hine, long-time supporter of the arts, is reprising his Producer's role for this event which he created in 2010 to support area arts organization's building funds.

The evening's festivities will begin at TheatreWorks New Milford where guests are greeted with champagne, then they will be transported to The New Milford Historical Society Museum at 6 Aspetuck Ave. for a cocktail party featuring gourmet finger food and beverages.

Guests will have the opportunity to peruse the permanent exhibits of New Milford History on display, and also a one night EXCLUSIVE exhibit of the history of the 1901 Advent church and the evolution of TheatreWorks which includes a collection of photos from the 1960s and 1970s taken by local attorney and amateur photographer Harry Cohen. The photos feature many of the earliest shows of the small troupe of thespians whose vision of purchasing the Church on Brookside Ave to house an Arts organization came true in 1973. Selected props and costumes will be on display as well.

After the cocktail party, guests will be transported back to the theater for final bidding on silent auction items donated by local businesses to help raise funds for these two worthy causes AND a one night only cabaret show highlighting what TheatreWorks New Milford does best in the region; outstanding entertainment!

When asked why he has such a passion Mr. Hine stated "New Milford has such rich history and great arts organizations. The problem is they are housed in historic buildings that have special needs to maintain and the entrance or tickets fees do not cover the kind of projects that are required."

At the Historical Society the major initiative going on is the Knapp house stabilization project. Roughly one year ago plaster starting cracking in the circa 1770 home along with floor movement. The Board of Trustees acted quickly to assess the situation by securing a Technical Assistance grant from the CT Trust for Historic Preservation to find out that the underlying structure no longer supported the building. TheatreWorks' main goal is to install a bathroom on the second floor, to accommodate all of their patrons but particularly the elderly and the handicapped.

Come and enjoy a one night only collaborative evening of History, Entertainment, gourmet food, and lots of fun while supporting two cornerstone organizations of New Milford and the surrounding region.

Tickets are only $75.00 per person which can be purchased online at http://www.theatreworks.us/tickets.php or by calling the theater at (860) 350-6863.
