Westport Community Theatre's ETC staged reading series premiers a new play by award-winning local playwright Jim Gordon!

A Good Place is set in Walsh's Tavern, an old New York City neighborhood bar that has seen better days.

It's difficult to tell whether Helen Molloy owns Walsh's Tavern or the Tavern owns her. Suspicious of technology and fearful of the world that lies outside her barroom door, she's losing her battle to compete with the trendy bars that have invaded the neighborhood. For advice, she turns to the people least able to give it, the tavern regulars, who have turned Walsh's into their clubhouse. When Helen receives an offer to sell, her patrons panic, secrets are revealed, and a tragedy forces Helen to make a decision.

Jim Gordon's plays have won or been finalists in over 70 national and international competitions and have been produced throughout the US and Europe. Many of his full-length and one-act plays have been published and his short plays appear in several "Best Short Play" anthologies. Dramatic Publishing Company published his full-length play Death Defying Acts, in 2009 followed by a second collection, The Revenge Plays, in 2010. Among his many awards, Jim received the Alan Minieri Award for Playwriting Excellence from The American Globe Theatre in New York City. Jim is a member of SquareWrights in Stratford CT, the Theatre Artists Workshop in Norwalk, CT, and the Dramatists Guild.

Directed by Richard Mancini (The Women, Orson's Shadow, and others), the cast includes many faces familiar to WCT: Larry Greeley, Nadine Willig, Manny Lieberman, Robert Watts, Geoffrey Gilbert, Dan Fitzgerald, Maureen Cummings, Tom Costaggini, Jack Rushen, Quillian, Jessica Mancini, Rodney Moore, Ann Kinner, and Andrew Morris.

Join playwright Jim Gordon and the director and cast for what promises to be a lively post-performance discussion on this special evening
