Auditions for Fat Pig by Neil Lebute
Tuesday & Thursday, January 2 & 4, 2018 at 7pm Windham Middle School, Quarry Street, Willimantic
WTG launches a new series of plays under the name of Fractured Theatre @ WTG. This series will feature well-written plays and musicals that for one reason or another don't fit into the Main Stage Season. The productions will be small and simple to start and will offer WTG performers and audience members new and exciting opportunities. The play will be Fat Pig by Neil LeBute with performances on March 2, 3, & 4, 2018.
Cow.Slob.Pig. How many insults can you hear before you have to stand up and defend the woman you love? Tom faces just that question when he falls for Helen, a bright, funny, sexy young woman who happens to be plus-sized - and then some. Forced to explain his new relationship to his shallow (although shockingly funny) friends, he finally comes to terms with his own preconceptions of the importance of conventional good looks. Neil LaBute's sharply drawn play not only critiques our slavish adherence to Hollywood ideals of beauty but also boldly questions our own ability to change what we dislike about ourselves."
Director: Jim York
Needed: 2 men and 2 women in their 20's and 30's (one plus size woman).Tom - The plot's protagonist. Late 20s to early 30s, he is a stereotypical man for his age group, until he meets Helen, who he subsequently falls in love with.
Helen - A quite heavy, though self-confident librarian. She becomes Tom's love interest and the catalyst for his change of view. Carter - Tom's closest friend at the office. Carter represents the narcissistic and shallow qualities that Tom is trying to overcome. Carter is the play's consummate antagonist. Jeannie - Another co-worker at Tom's unnamed office firm. She and Tom used to date, but Tom was never fully committed to the relationship. Jeannie's self-confidence is damaged because Tom dumps her for a "fat girl".For questions and additional information, please contact Director, Jim York at yorkjr48@gmail.com or 860-377-0073.
