First Annual Hartford Fringe Festival Announced For October 2019 Image

Pearwater Productions announced today the launch of the first-ever Hartford Fringe Festival to be held October 17 through 26, 2019 at the Carriage House Theatre, 360 Farmington Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. The ten-day event will consist of 41 performances of 19 unique productions.

The expansive and far-ranging productions that comprise the inaugural Hartford Fringe Festival includes theatre, music, dance, improv comedy, musical theatre, stand-up, and solo performance pieces. Artists from New York to Maine will converge in the intimate Carriage House Theatre in Hartford's West End where there will be three to seven performances daily during the run of the festival. The schedule and production descriptions can be found at HartfordFringeFestival.org.

According to a recent Huffington Post article, "Fringe festivals are all about providing an accessible avenue for independent theatre artists to produce and perform their work in front of an audience. The Fringe is really the essence of theatre; virtually anybody can submit a show to the Fringe and the festivals place no limits on content so shows can be bold, raw and uncensored."

Event Producer Jeffrey Kagan-McCann states, "In 1994, I moved from Hartford to Seattle where I ended up working in the administrative office of the International Seattle Fringe Festival. It was based on the same premise as the granddaddy of all fringe festivals - The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I was so excited to be a part of this creative outlet that I was inspired to present my first play, A Fine Line, and joined the festival for four more years.

"I dreamed that when I moved back East that I would bring this type of a performing arts festival to Hartford. It would introduce new and established local and out-of-state artists on a platform dedicated to creating adventurous new works. After working on other theater projects under my production company Pearwater Productions for 19 years, we decided to initiate our first Hartford Fringe Festival."

Tickets for individual Hartford Fringe Festival performances are on sale now for $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors. Please note that, although certain performances are particularly family friendly, not all performances are recommended for children.
