Pearl Cleage's play, Flyin' West recently opened at Connecticut's Westport Country Playhouse, bringing a powerful story of three sisters who will stop at nothing to keep each other safe.

The tale takes place in 1898, set in the rural town of Nicodemus, Kansas, known to house many former slaves. Here we meet Fanny Dove (Brittany Bradford) and sister Sophie Washington (Nikiya Mathis) along with Miss Leah (Brenda Pressley), all living in one house on land that was left to them by their family.

The women are waiting for the youngest sister Minnie Dove Charles (Keona Welch) and her husband Frank (Michael Chenevert) to arrive from London but are stunned by what they learn once the couple enters their small town. With the help of their friend Wil Parish (Edward O'Blenis) they come up with a plan to take on what lies ahead, even if it may not be completely ethical.

The bond these three sisters have is heartwarming and so is their continuous act of bravery, making for an inspiring story with plenty of surprising twists to keep you well entertained until the very end.

Flyin' West is currently at the Westport Country Playhouse from now until June 16th.
