Helen Mirren has played the Queen of England several times, including in "The Queen" movie and a TV mini-series called "Elizabeth I." She won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in "The Queen" in 2006 and this year won a Tony Award for her Broadway role in "The Audience." Don't miss an encore screening at The Ridgefield Playhouse, as part of the AAA Northeast at The Playhouse Live in HD Series, on Saturday, August 13 at 7 p.m.
Theater fans will see the critically acclaimed production from London's Gielgud Theatre as it was originally captured in 2013. The Audience imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister uses these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional -sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. In turn, the Queen can't help but reveal her own self as she advises, consoles and on occasion, teases.
These private audiences chart the arc of the second Elizabethan Age, from the beginning of Elizabeth II's reign to today. Politicians come and go through the revolving door of electoral politics, while she remains constant, waiting to welcome her next Prime Minister.
The Audience features the critically acclaimed production from London's Gielgud Theatre as it was originally captured in 2013. In addition to the play, audiences will be treated to bonus content - an exclusive Q&A with Mirren and director Stephen Daldry.
