Newton Schenck Theatre. The press opening takes place on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $29.

Jordan Lage recently appeared in Long Wharf Theatre's production of Ride the Tiger as Sam Giancana and is a founding member of Atlantic Theater Company, appearing in over 100 productions there. He has appeared on Broadway, and is a leading interpreter and teacher of the works of David Mamet. Rooth is familiar to Connecticut audiences appearing at Westport Country Playhouse, Hartford Stage, and Theatreworks. Her Broadway credits include Venus in Fur, Born Yesterday, and Is He Dead? Steve Routman has appeared in Our Town, The Second Mrs. Wilson, and The Underpants at Long Wharf Theatre. A Broadway veteran, he has also appeared in films directed by the Coen Brothers and Martin Scorcese. Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba appeared at Long Wharf in Sylvia. Larry 'The Liquidator' Garfinkle is a donut-chomping, fast-talking Wall Street takeover artist, and if you are running a business, he's the last person you want to darken your door. When he goes crazy over New England Wire and Cable's undervalued stock, it's up to Kate, a brilliant young lawyer, to stop him from gutting the company. Can she save her hometown's venerable factory from a gleeful corporate shark? Or should she?
"It's an entertainment about an attempt to purchase a company by a greedy Wall Street businessman. He uses the wiliest of techniques to acquire a wire and cable company in Rhode Island. It's a prescient piece of theatre, anticipating the corporate takeovers of the 2000s," Edelstein said.
Other People's Money opened in February 1989 at the Minetta Lane Theater and ran for over 900 performances, becoming a darling of the Wall Street and business communities. The play then embarked on a national tour and was adapted into a film starring Danny DeVito.
Playwright Jerry Sterner was born in Bronx in 1938. After a successful career in real estate, Sterner became a writer full time in 1980. In a 1991 interview with the Christian Science Monitor, Sterner said the play was based on a real estate transaction he was personally involved in. He purchased stock in a successful company that manufactured nuts and bolts. His stock quickly lost value and he sold to a corporate raider. A year later, while vacationing with his family, he visited the company. It had been closed and used as a tax write off. The surrounding community was decimated. "I asked myself, are we as a nation better for this corporate restructuring," Sterner told the Christian Science Monitor. "(Other People's Money) does ask questions we need to ask ... what place does a manmade device like business hold in our society? Is business here to satisfy the needs of its citizenry or are we here to serve the needs of business?"
