Eastbound Theatre, a division of the Milford Arts Council, wil present the third show of its 21st season, the Hollywood thriller The Cat's Meow, by Steven Peros, directed by Joel Fenster.

The production will run from tonight, June 5th through June 21st, 2015 at the Milford Center for Arts. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm, Sunday matinees are at 2pm. Please note: this play contains adult language and situations.

Tickets are $20.00 general admission, $18.00 for seniors and students, $16 for MAC members. Call 203-882-0969 for reservations.

The show features Cathy Cordaro of Trumbull, Sara Detrik of Fairfield, Stephen DiRocco of Wilton, Jessica Drozdzynski of Norwalk, Johnson Flucker of Trumbull, Marc Hartog of Westport, Rob Hunt of Wilton, Nick Kaye of Bethel, Sue O'Hara of Southport, Valerie Solli of Milford, Qesar Veliu of New Haven, Jean Marie Warncke of Stamford, and Sierra Williams of Bridgeport.

Based on the true story of a mysterious Hollywood death, The Cat's Meow offers a fascinating cross section of Jazz Era characters who intersect for one notorious weekend on board William Randolph Hearst's yacht in 1924. Weekend guests include: Charlie Chaplin, who has been carrying on with movie star Marion Davies, a secret known to Davies' paramour, the married - and much older -- Hearst; and movie mogul Thomas Ince, who is hoping to revive his flagging fortunes by forming a partnership with Hearst. Playing with fire, Ince tries to convince Hearst that he can handle both Marion's movie career... and her private life as well.

This darkly comic morality play is laced with clandestine romance, Hollywood excess, and steadily heating tensions, which erupt in a shocking act of violence. The play was adapted for film in 2002, with a screenplay by the author, directed by Peter Bogdanovich, and starring Kirsten Dunst, Eddie Izzard, and Edward Herrmann.

Director Joel Fenster explains, "Having gone to film school and being interested in the history of film as an art form, I've always had a fascination with the myths and legends of Hollywood. I loved the film version of this piece and when I realized it had been a play first, I read it, found it to be more engrossing than the film (which was highly engrossing) and was thrilled that Eastbound was willing to take the chance on this little known but tightly written piece."

Steven Peros is an award winning playwright and filmmaker, known not only for The Cat's Meow and the critically acclaimed Karlaboy, but for his work on television shows such as Dorian Gray and The Lot. He is currently developing a film on the life of Rita Hayworth, starring and produced by Eva Longoria.
