On Sunday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m., The Sherman Playhouse will host a FREE staged reading of award-winning playwright Terrence McNally's DEUCE - the inaugural reading in the new Sherman Sunday Script Series of readings to be performed at The Playhouse.

Warmly funny and unexpectedly touching, DEUCE tells the story of retired tennis stars Leona Mullen (Ellen Burnett, Sherman) and Midge Barker (Patricia Michael, Dover Plains, N.Y.), who one make up a championship doubles team in their youth. When they meet again at the US Open, the women, now at the end of their lives, find themselves trying to make sense of the professional partnership that brought them to the top of the sports world in their youth.

"We have such a fine cast of actors," said director Katherine Almquist of Sharon. "But this is really a tour de force for Trish [Michael], who had a glorious musical comedy career throughout Europe, as well as Ellen [Burnett], who studied at theUniversity of Chicago and was a mainstay at The Sherman Playhouse for years. They really shine in this piece and I'm so proud to have them working on stage together."

Besides Burnett and Michael, the cast features some of the region's finest actors: Jenny Schuck (Danbury), Stephen Greene (Kent), David Almquist (Sharon), and Robin Frome (New Milford).

No reservations are required to see DUECE, but donations are greatly appreciated. For more information, please visit www.shermanplayers.org.
