Conor McPherson's THE VEIL Opens Next Month at Town Players

THE VEIL, a tale of suspense by Conor McPherson, opens July 14 at Town Players.

The time is May 1822 - the place, rural Ireland. The recently defrocked Reverend Berkeley arrives at the formerly grand Mount Prospect House to act as a traveling companion to seventeen-year-old Hannah, who is to be married off to an English marquis in order to resolve the debts of her mother's estate. Upon his arrival, Berkeley is compelled by the strange voices that haunt the young woman. This, combined with his fascination with the psychic current that permeates the house, Berkeley proposes a séance - and the consequences are disastrous. In THE VEIL, playwright McPherson weaves Ireland's troubled colonial history into a mesmerizing tale about the search for love, the transcendental, and the circuitousness of time.

Directed by Ruth Anne Baumgartner of Fairfield, THE VEIL features the talents of Leslie Andrews of Norwalk, Lili DeRossi of Norwalk, Marguerite Foster of Torrington, Timothy Huber of Danbury, Alexander Kulcsar of Fairfield, Laurel Lettieri of Norwalk, Leah Nashel of Newtown, and Rob Pawlikowski of Roxbury. The production crew includes producer Sherry Asch of Brewster, NY, stage manager Briana O'Brien LaMare of Fairfield, set designer Alexander Kulcsar of Fairfield, lighting designers Nick Kaye of Bethel and Rob Pawlikowski of Roxbury, sound designers Rob Pawlikowski and Ruth Anne Baumgartner, costume designers Ruth Anne Baumgartner and Mary Kulcsar of Fairfield, accent coach Madeleine Golda of Norwal, production assistant Patricia Reese of Bethel, and backstage assistant Miette Deschenes of Southbury.

THE VEIL runs July 14 - August 5. Curtain times are 8 PM Fridays and Saturdays, with 2 PM matinees on July 23 & 30 and a performance on Thursday, August 3 at 8 PM.
