"Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!" Take your seat as the Castle Craig Players present CABARET, the seductive, politically charged and daring Tony Award-winning musical for two weeks only - July 29-August 7!
Featuring an unforgettable score by
John Kander and Fredd Ebb, CABARET takes audiences deep into the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Club on the eve of Hitler's rise to power in Weimar Germany. Based on
Christopher Isherwood's memoir "Goodbye to Berlin", CABARET follows the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer, a writer from America, and the denizens of Berlin as they are caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. Led by the enigmatic and dazzling Emcee, CABARET is an intoxicating theatrical experience, featuring well-known classics of the musical stage such as "
Don't Tell Mama," "Maybe This Time," and of course "Cabaret".
"Besides being a beloved and compelling musical, I believe that CABARET is a piece of theatre that is arguably more relevant today than ever," says
Ian Galligan, the shows director. "Given what's going on in the world right now, and what you see when you turn on the news, the theme of the show is as timely and urgent now as it was when it first opened fifty years ago."
Those familiar with the
Bob Fosse-directed 1972 film version featuring
Joel Grey and
Liza Minnelli will find that Hollywood took a great many liberties when adapting the stage musical for the big screen. "While the movie is beautifully done," Galligan describes, "our audiences are going to see the real deal - and I think they'll be pleasantly surprised."
The cast includes Jason Parry (Emcee), Ian Lynch-Passarelli (Cliff Bradshaw), Jessica Rohe (Sally Bowles), Betty McCready (Fraulein Schneider), David E. Schancupp (Herr Schultz),
Wesley Tack (Ernst Ludwig) and Jenny Del Sole (Fraulein Kost). The company also features Arthur Canova, Nick Ciasullo, Alex Colavecchio, Emma Czaplinski,
Chelsea Dacey, Lisa Deangelis, Oliver Kochol, Allison Koppel and Jorge Melendez. Andrew Gadwah serves as music director and the show features choreography by Tessa Grunwald.
