Bijou Theatre's 2015-16 Main Stage Season to Include TICK...TICK...BOOM!, BIG FISH & More

The Bijou Theatre in Bijou Square, Bridgeport, announces the lineup for their second season of live theatre. The Main Stage Series includes five productions running from September 11, 2015 through May 22, 2016 at The Bijou Theatre located at 275 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport, CT.

Opening the season is the rock musical "Tick Tick Boom," directed by Michael Mele of Milford. "Tick Tick Boom" is a semi-autobiographical musical written by the creator of RENT, Jonathan Larson. It follows an aspiring composer questioning his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. "Tick Tick Boom" runs September 11-20, 2015.

Following "Tick Tick Boom", and debuting around Halloween, is the drama "The Pillowman," directed by Julie Bell Petrak. Set in an unnamed totalitarian state, a writer is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of murders. "The Pillowman" runs October 23-November 1, 2015.

In the New Year, Artistic Director of The Bijou Theatre, Maggie Pangrazio will take on the popular classic "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Based on the 1962 novel written by Ken Kesey, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was made famous in 1975 by the award winning film starring Jack Nicholson. Upon admittance to a mental institution, a brash rebel rallies the patients to take on the oppressive head Nurse Ratched. "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" runs January 29-February 7, 2016.

Spring of 2016 premieres The Bijou Theatre's second Live Musical of the season, "Big Fish," directed by Mat Young. Inspired by the popular 2003 film starring Ewan MacGregor, "Big Fish" follows a son who tries to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths he told about his life. "Big Fish" runs April 1-10, 2016.

Closing the season is "Take Me Out," directed by Rich Mancini. "Take Me Out" centers on Darren Lemming, a popular and successful professional baseball player, who, at the peak of his career, decides to come out of the closet. "Take Me Out" runs May 13-22, 2016.

The 2015-16 Main Stage Series is the second year of live theatre at The Bijou Theatre, following the inaugural 2014-15 season, which ends with "Hamlet" and "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" in rep May 15-24, 2015. The past season included four additional, well-received projects. Artistic Director Maggie Pangrazio will continue to lead the Bijou Theatre team into the new season. Tickets go on sale July 1, 2015, and subscription packages are available to purchase as well. Audition schedules are announced on a show-by-show basis, several months before each show is set to open.


The Bijou Performing Arts Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing visual and performing arts programs and events for the community. The Bijou Performing Arts Center offers educational programs in Dance though New England Ballet, Music & Theatre, as well as special events and live theatre performances. Private donations, grants, tuition fees & ticket sales fund the Bijou Arts Center, which is located at 275 Fairfield Avenue in Downtown Bridgeport. The Bijou Theatre, one of the oldest buildings in the country used as a movie house, reopened its doors in 2011. In addition to continuing its historic character of showing movies, the Theatre offers a full repertoire of live music, comedy, theater and dance, which can be enjoyed in either theater seating or cabaret style. The Bijou Theatre is a multi-functional venue with integrity and an open-minded philosophy- a symposium for film, theatre, art, comedy and music.
