On Friday, April 20, I had the pleasure of speaking with Corey Mach, founder of the Broadway Sings concert series that includes BROADWAY SINGS Stevie Wonder, a concert that is scheduled to be performed at The Ridgefield Playhouse, in Ridgefield, CT, on May 14, 2018, at 7:00 P.M.
The show features nineteen total songs which are to be performed by six Broadway stars including Corey Mach(Kinky Boots, Godspell), Ben Fankhauser(Newsies, Beautiful: The Carol King Musical), Paige Faure(Miss Saigon, Cinderella), Brittney Johnson(Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard), Sydney Morton(Evita, American Psycho), and Austin Owen(Jersey Boys, Memphis). The band is also from the city, and will feature a variety of instruments including guitar, bass drum, synthesizer, piano, and horns. Back-up singers will also be on stage, completing the fullness of the sound.
The songs, including three smash-ups are arranged in unique ways that highlight the singers' strengths, with accompaniment adjusted to these new arrangements. It is an opportunity to hear classic Stevie Wonder songs performed in refreshingly new styles that remain true to the original lyrics and melodies. An example of what to expect can be seen at the following link.
Higher Ground/Living For The City
Corey Mach likes to put things together from the ground up, having started the Broadway Sings concert series, in New York City, with a tribute to Adele's music. That successful run has paved the way for numerous other tribute productions, including to the music of the Beatles and Billy Joel. BROADWAY SINGS Stevie Wonder was a huge success in the city, when it first ran in April of 2013. Now, Ridgefield residents get to experience this Broadway quality concert, right at the Ridgefield Playhouse, on May 14th. For tickets, please go to Ridgefield Playhouse.
