On the heels of a somewhat contentious election, Artists for World Peace (AFWP) is hosting a dialogue about the unifying power of peace. Six spiritual leaders will bring their messages of peace to the Artists for World Peace Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 3rd. The Interfaith Dialogue will run from 1:30 - 3 p.m. at the deKoven House Community Center on 27 Washington Street, Middletown.

"This panel was formed months ago, well before the election, because it is a timeless message," said Wendy Black-Nasta, founder and president of AFWP. "We wanted to highlight the importance of peace in our lives, on an individual, local, state, national and international level. Our goal for the day is to increase understanding of each other and reduce fear and skepticism of the unknown."

Panelists include the following spiritual leaders and speakers:

Rev. Julia Burkey, Moderator

Shyamala Raman, Hindu

Farah Chaudry, Islam

Nighthawk, Native American

Annaita Gandhy, Zoroastrian

Deb Drexler, Shambala Buddha

Janine Thomas, Baha'i

Rev. Dr. Jan Carlsson-Bull, Closing message

The panel is part of the AFWP Open House which runs from 1 - 6 p.m. on December 3rd. Other parts of the event include an opportunity to meet the travel team who ran the AFWP eye clinic in Tanzania last summer for the 3,500 villagers of Kibosho-Umbwe; a holiday marketplace with merchandise from Tanzania; peace jewelry designed by Wendy Black-Nasta; and other AFWP apparel, handbags, and designs. The day will end with a Native American drum circle and the lighting of luminaries, for participants to send their wishes for peace out to the universe.

Artists for World Peace is a nonprofit organization of artists and activists who promote peace by feeding, housing, educating and providing healthcare to the most vulnerable, lifting communities to a place of hope.
