Since moving into their permanent home on 503 S. Front Street five years ago, Shadowbox Live has been featuring the work of local artists on the walls of the Backstage Bistro and aptly named "Gallery Hallway." What started as an experiment has grown into an integral part of the experience, and Shadowbox Live is now bringing on a Curator for the Shadowbox Galleries, Amy Ivanhoff!

"The project just kept getting bigger," says Amy Lay, Shadowbox Live's Director of Art, who has been running the Galleries for five years. "We started out with the idea of giving some much needed exposure for local artists, then we began matching the art themes to our shows, and then we started doing receptions for the artists and showing more than one at a time, and so on."

"It'll be a wonderful thing to have a Curator to schedule and organize what has become a pretty big job," says Lay.

Ivanhoff, who has a Masters of Fine Arts in Expanded Arts from the Ohio State University, will take over the task of finding artists for the Galleries and scheduling all events associated with their shows, under the direction and advise of Lay.

"I am dazzled by the range of talent at Shadowbox Live and see it as a major arts center in the Midwest," says Ivanhoff. "At this juncture in my life I am fortunate to have the time and opportunity to support the galleries and local artists of our community!"

As for Shadowbox Live's desire to match themes of their productions to the artwork, Ivanhoff says she's looking forward to it.

"It's fun and challenging to make connections between performances and art," says Ivanhoff. "What a treat for me to assist with these endeavors!"

The current showings at the Shadowbox Galleries will continue through September 4th and include longtime local photographer and award winner Ernst Wehausen showing in the Backstage Bistro, and painter/printmaker Jill Hurley and painter/muralist Roger Williams featured in the Gallery Hallway in the theater. Available viewing times are 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Tuesdays to Fridays, 5:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesdays to Saturdays and 4:00 - 7:00 PM Sundays. For more information, contact amylay@shadowboxlive.org.
