FFN Rolls the Dice Synopsis

Full Frontal Nudity continues to bring you cutting-edge long-form improv like you won't see anywhere else. With FFN ROLLS THE DICE, they bring you a long-form improvisational format filled with change and intrigue and based around some of your favorite board games.

FFN rolls the dice, but you decide what awaits our game players as they land on the board spaces of Relationship, Location, Time Shift, Deep Dark Secret and Mistake and, of course, Lose Turn. And the roll of the dice determines not only what happens on stage but also who are the winners in the studio audience.

The Columbus Foundation, GCAC and OAC support MadLab throughout the year.

FFN Rolls the Dice to be Presented in 3-D

MadLab Theatre and Gallery announced this week that its upcoming production of FFN Rolls the Dice, the latest long-form improvisational performance by resident troupe Full Frontal Nudity, will be presented in 3-D.

"When we looked at the state of entertainment today, we realized that there's a lot of stuff out there we're competing against," said Andy Batt, MadLab's Managing Director. "TVs, DVDs, HDTVs, MP3s, and lots of other technologies are keeping people away from the live arts. So we wanted to try to incorporate some of that into one of our productions."

Batt called on Stephen Woosley and Josh Kessler, MadLab's technical directors-in-training, to see if they were up to the challenge.

"First we tried to brainstorm to see what all that technology had in common," said Woosley. "We saw that a lot of that stuff had letters that rhymed with 3 or D, so we tried to stick a letter like that in our name. We even came up with a V word that seemed like it could work in FFN, but Andy said the Board of Directors wouldn't let us use it. But then we were like, hey-3 and D. If you stick a hyphen in there, that's 3-D! That took us four and a half months."

The technology was developed through trial and error, according to Kessler. "We tried using anaglyph images, like what they used in all of those old 3-D movies from the 50's. But once half of the troupe was wearing red and the other half was wearing blue, a gang war broke out. We evidently have some rage issues."

"We finally settled on an Autostereoscopic system, which uses cutting-edge light refraction techniques projected using spectral separation and utilizing the Pulfrich effect," Kessler continued.
"The audience doesn't even need to wear glasses. When we roll the dice, it looks like they're coming right at you!"

Batt appreciates the unobtrusive nature of the three dimensional system. "From hearing Wooz and Josh talk about it, it almost sounds like they didn't do anything other than lift some jargon off of
Wikipedia," he said. "But then during rehearsal after they installed it, I literally felt the breeze coming off of one of the dice they threw! If there's any other way to explain that, I'd love to hear it."

Said Woosley, "This is our best work since we built the invisible fence to keep vampires away."
