Evolution Theatre Company presents ELIZABETH REX by Timothy Findley in its area premiere. There will be one preview on Wednesday, June 4 at 8 PM. Performances run Thursday through Saturday, June 5 - 7 and Thursday through Saturday, June 12 - 14 at 8 PM, and Sunday, June 8 at 2 PM.
The late Canadian Playwright Timothy Findley's sprawling period drama Elizabeth Rex, tells the fictional story of when Queen Elizabeth I turns to the theatre for distraction in the hours before a man she loves is executed for treason by her order. The play's complicated duel between Queen Elizabeth and dying, upstart Shakespearean actor Ned Lowenscroft, launches the play into the stratosphere. Elizabeth Rex, deals with issues surrounding gender, identity and power.
Directed by Brent Alan Burington, the show features David Vargo as William Shakespeare, Mark Phillips Schwamberger as Ned Lowenscroft and Peggy Reasoner as Queen Elizabeth I.
