Made possible by the recent conversion of all three movie theatres to digital audio and sound, the Drexel Theatre now offers the latest in closed captioning technology, the Sony entertainment access glasses. Only the second movie theatre in Columbus to offer this cutting edge service, the system uses holographic technology to project closed caption text on the lenses of the glasses. The text appears to float over the cinema screen picture at a comfortable viewing distance, allowing patrons to enjoy a movie as if it was subtitled with no eye fatigue.
"We are grateful for the addition of this equipment donated in honor of Jim Crane by Meredith and Jay Crane," stated Richard Stoff, Board Chair of Friends of the Drexel. "This is just one more way the Drexel can better serve its patrons and make it more competitive in the market, helping safeguard the future of the Drexel for many years to come."
The new entertainment access glasses are available at the Drexel Theatre box office at no additional charge to patrons. Not all films are available in a format compatible with the system; however, the Drexel will secure compatible formats whenever possible. Patrons can check for closed captioned showings at Drexel.net, CaptionFish.com, or by calling the Drexel box office at 614.231.9512.
