In its final concert of the 2012-13 season, CSO Associate Conductor Peter Stafford Wilson will lead the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) in a performance of Gustov Holst's The Planets. The program will also feature trumpeter Liam Bacon, a senior at Linworth Alternative High School, in the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto.

This Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra concert will be performed at the Capitol Theatre (77 S. High St.) on Sunday, March 10, at 3pm. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. All tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the door.

About Liam Bacon
Liam Bacon has been playing for eight years, and has been a member of Capital University's Junior Winds, the Cadet Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra. During 7th and 8th grades, he competed in the National Trumpet Competition and was a semi-finalist both times. He attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute during the summer of 2012. Bacon has studied with his current teacher Sarah Grosse, as well as David Kraus, Tom Siders, Michael Martin, Thomas Rolfes, Ben Write, Ken Larsson, Roy Poper, and Arto Hoornweg. He has been a member of the Ohio All-State Orchestra three times, and looks forward to being principal trumpet again this year. Bacon hopes to attend Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands next year for his classical music training.

About the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra
The Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra is comprised of aspiring, young musicians in central Ohio (grades 9-12). This 90-member orchestra includes students from 38 high schools in more than 10 counties. Members are selected through a competitive audition process held each spring.

Sponsored by the Columbus Symphony, the Youth Orchestra emphasizes the performance of standard orchestral literature under the leadership of a professional conductor and with regular advice from Columbus Symphony coaches. Weekly rehearsals during the school year are carried out under professional standards. Members are expected to take private lessons and maintain leadership responsibilities in their school ensembles.
