Columbus Children's Theatre will present The Wedding Singer today, July 11 - 28, 2013, with Music by Matthew Sklar, Book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, Lyrics by Chad Beguelin and Based on the New Line Cinema film written by Tim Herlihy. This production will be directed by William Goldsmith with Music Direction by Tim Valentine.
The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room. It's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter, Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull of the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
Columbus Children's Theatre normally produces theatre for young audiences. However, every July CCT produces a show that is performed by the CCT Summer Pre-Professional Company. This company is comprised of High School and College students through the age of 23. All of these young people plan to pursue a career in the theatre arts and usually musical theatre in particular. Every July we offer them a chance to perform in a show that is often more difficult and challenging than what they are offered through other venues. Also, this gives CCT the opportunity to step outside of the box and offer a show to a more mature audience, usually high school and older. The quality of the production is always stellar and is very well received by the audience.
The CCT Summer Pre-Professional Company will present its production of The Wedding Singer at 7:30pm tonight (July 11), Friday (July 12), and Saturday (July 13) and 3:00pm next Sunday (July 14) - and July 18-21, and July 25-28 - at the Park Street Theatre, 512 N. Park St. Tickets, suggested for ages 13 and older, cost $15.00. Call 614-224-6672 or visit
