Madder Music & Stronger Wine
Co-Produced with Russ Cowan
Since prehistoric times, Man has created and enjoyed erotic art and/or literature. Madder Music & Stronger Wine is a new musical revue that suggests that it was during the fin de siecle, the last twenty years of the nineteenth century, that erotica managed, against all odds, to become art.
With a rousing and mischievous score by Sir Arthur S. Sullivan (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame), this musical romp (book and lyrics by Portland playwright Russ Cowan - Going to Pot: The Reefer Madness Musical) examines the Victorian mindset, the major sexual obsessions of the era and the erotic output of the major writers of the day, including Thomas Hardy, Alfred Tennyson, Lewis Carroll, Mark Twain, and of course, the irrepressible Oscar Wilde.
A cast of six take on over twenty roles in musicalizations of the most notorious erotic novels of the fin de siecle in this blush-inducing World Premiere romp through the dirty linens of the Victorian Era.
June 21-June 23, 2010; Mon-Wed @8 - At these stage readings, producer Russ Cowan will gather audience feedback about his new work.
August 9-August 11, 2010; Mon-Wed @8 - Russ returns, having incorporated your feedback into this fully-staged production!
