CATCO Presents EVIE'S WALTZ

Clay and Gloria are preparing a family barbecue. Their plans for the evening are disrupted by the unexpected arrival of their son's girlfriend, Evie, who has blood on her neck. Shortly thereafter, they learn that their son, Danny, is missing. Then the parents discover that Danny and Evie have been suspended for bringing a gun to school.

As twilight moves to night, the simmering tensions between parents and teens boil over in the gripping and provocative thriller, Evie's Waltz, a central Ohio premiere written by Columbus native Carter W. Lewis. CATCO will present the play Feb. 17-March 7, 2010, at the Vern Riffe Center, Studio Two Theater, 77 S High St. The play contains some strong language.
CATCO Artistic Director Geoffrey Nelson described Evie's Waltz as "a taut, contemporary thriller laced with humor, and a must-see for parents and teens. It's a play that people will be talking and arguing about after they leave the theatre." "Seat-squirming tension," says talkinbroadway.com; The New York Times calls Evie's Waltz "a pas de deux of anxious parent and rebellious teenager."

Starring in Evie's Waltz are Mandy Fox (Gloria); Caitlin Morris (Evie); and Ralph Scott (Clay). Fox, a theatre professor at The Ohio State University, recently directed CATCO's critically acclaimed production of The Seafarer and performed as Sister Aloysius in the theatre's spring 2008 production of Doubt. Morris, a recent Otterbein College graduate, is making her CATCO debut in Evie's Waltz. At Otterbein she performed in While We Were Bowling, And Baby Makes Seven and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Scott recently performed in The Foursome at CATCO and in Noises Off at OSU.

Directing the cast is Ed Vaughan, who has worked in theatre for more than 30 years as an actor, director, stage manager, theater manager, artistic director, producer and acting teacher. At CATCO he has appeared in The Loman Family Picnic, How I Learned To Drive, Dealer's Choice, The Shorts Festival 2000, The Little Foxes, The Homecoming, The Odd Couple, Speed-The-Plow, and The Shorts Festival 2006. He was last seen onstage at CATCO in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.
CATCO's 2009-10, 26th anniversary season is dedicated to community leaders, Loann Crane, Barbara Fergus and Tom Katzenmeyer. Donors for the season are Limited Brands; the Robert Bartels and Edith Doud Unrestricted Funds of The Columbus Foundation; Nationwide Foundation; Ohio Arts Council, which funds CATCO with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans; and the Greater Columbus Arts Council, which is providing a project support grant for Pierce to the Soul, which will be produced April 7-25, 2010.

Preview (Discounted Tickets)/Opening Night Performances

There are two previews for Evie's Waltz, Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m., and Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $11.50 for the 11 a.m. performance, and $32.50 for the 7:30 p.m. show. The opening performance is Friday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40, and include admission to a post-performance party in the theatre lobby.

Half-Price Happy Hour

At least one Thursday of each show run - typically the second Thursday performance - tickets and drinks are half price. For Evie's Waltz, the Half-Price Happy Hour is Thursday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m.

$11@11 Matinees

For Evie's Waltz, there will be three $11@11 performances: Wednesday, Feb. 17, Feb. 24, and March 3. CATCO's $11 @ 11 is an offering for theatre-goers who want to see a play mid-week (Wednesday) and mid-day (11 a.m.) at a great price ($11 plus a 50-cent restoration fee). For a deeper understanding of each play, CATCO presents talkback sessions for audiences. For Evie's Waltz, the actor talkback will follow the Sunday, Feb. 21, matinee; the dramaturge talkback will follow the Sunday, Feb. 28, matinee.

Audio Description

On one Sunday of each production, CATCO provides an audio-described performance for the visually impaired along with free headset rental. The audio description for Evie's Waltz will be Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.

Ticket/Parking Information

Tickets for regular performances are $40. Students and seniors may purchase half-price tickets on Sunday and Thursday performances the day of the performance based on availability and valid I.D. All tickets can be purchased at the box office at 41 E.
