The Lincoln Theatre Association and the King Arts Complex are partnering to celebrate the most recent release of New York Times best-selling author, journalist, and Columbus native Wil Haygood today, September 29. Showdown: Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court Nomination that Changed America is Haygood's sweeping epic about the tumultuous, real-life events surrounding the heated appointment of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court justice, to be released September 15. Haygood will read excerpts from his book, discuss the journey that led him to recount this turbulent period of our history, and participate in a question and answer session. Pre-signed books will be available for sale at the event.

The Lincoln Theatre Association and the King Arts Complex present An Evening with Wil Haygood at the Lincoln Theatre (769 E. Long St.) on Tuesday, September 29, at 7 pm. Tickets are $48.50 at the CAPA Ticket Center (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com. To purchase tickets by phone, please call (614) 469-0939 or (800) 745-3000.

Best known as the author of the New York Times bestseller The Butler: A Witness to History, Haygood spent 30 years writing for The Boston Globe and The Washington Post, two of the most prestigious newspapers in America. During that time, he witnessed Nelson Mandela's release after 27 years of imprisonment, was taken hostage by Somalian rebels, covered New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina for 33 straight days, traveled with President Obama, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

Haygood was also an associate producer on the 2013 feature film The Butler starring Forest Whittaker, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jane Fonda. The film was an adaptation based on Haygood's 2008 Washington Post article, "A Butler Well Served by This Election," recounting the life of Eugene Allen, a waiter and butler who worked for the White House for 34 years before retiring in 1986.

This will be the seventh book release for Haygood. Previous releases include Two on the River (1986), King of Cats: The Life and Times of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. (1993), The Haygoods of Columbus (1997), In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr. (2003), Sweet Thunder: The Life and Times of Sugar Ray Robinson(2009), and The Butler: A Witness to History (2013).
