While it's loosely based on a biblical story, Neil Simon's "God's Favorite," being presented by Beavercreek Community Theatre, contains a lot more humor than the original story of Job.

In "God's Favorite," to be presented at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays from Jan. 29 through Feb. 7, Simon takes the basic story of Job and moves it to a Long Island mansion in the 1970s.

Instead of Job, it's a businessman, Joe Benjamin, portrayed by Geoff Burkman of Kettering, who is having his faith tested.

The successful businessman has already faced his fair share of challenges with a high-maintenance wife, portrayed by Marcia Nowik of Yellow Spring, a drunken prodigal son played by Jeremey Gingrich of Beavercreek and a pair of kookie and not too bright twins, portrayed by Josh Katawick of Springfield and Melissa Sokol of Kettering.

The household also includes a pair of wisecracking household employees, played by Franklin Johnson of Kettering and Catherine A. Collins of Dayton.

Joe's life takes on new challenges when a messenger from God, played by John Bukowski of Washington Township, pays him a visit.

The messenger delights in Joe's troubles and encourages him to end his trials by enouncing God, which Joe, like Job, refuses to do

Jim Lockwood of Huber Heights is directing the production along with assistant director Gina Yarber of Xenia.

Hans Unser of Beavercreek is the stage manager, Lou Anne Moody of Dayton is the costumer, the producers are Joanne Schaaf of Jamestown and Megan Vander Kolk of Fairborn and Chris Harmon of Beavercreek is the set designer.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $11 for BCT members, students, and senior citizens.
A group discount of $1 per ticket is available to groups of 10 or more, when purchased at the same time for the same performance.

Tickets can be reserved by calling BCT at (937) 429-4737 and leaving a message or by e-mailing boxoffice@bctheatre.org. For more information, visit the theater's Web site at www.bctheatre.org where tickets can also be purchased online.

The performances are at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 p.m. on Sundays. Beavercreek Community Theatre is located within the Lofino Adult Enrichment and Cultural Arts Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek.
