Shadowbox Live is thrilled to announce the return of Broken Whispers, a dance-theater production based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. The audience and critically acclaimed production will re-open for just 11 performances, Sundays only, on February 12th at the Brewery District theater, 503 S. Front Street.
Choreographed by
Katy Psenicka and adapted to the stage by Head Writer
Jimmy Mak, Broken Whispers blends modern ballet with rock 'n' roll music to tell the story of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire with an obsession in the form of a woman, Daisy Buchanan. The tale is seen through the eyes of Nick Carraway, a rather naïve young man who looks with astonishment at the opulence, infidelity, and lifestyle of the main characters.
And Shadowbox Live added their own unique spin. In Broken Whispers, Gatsby is a woman.
"The response to the inaugural run was overwhelmingly positive," says Psenicka. "Changing the gender of the title character did not change the overall messages of the story, it enhanced it and really drove home the concept that 'love is love'."
Broken Whispers runs Sundays at 2pm and 7pm, from February 12 - March 19, and is made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio
Arts Council, with Community Partner Kaleidoscope Youth Center.
