North University (Spanish: Universidad del Norte), also called Uninorte, is the main academic center for higher education in northern Colombia, located in Barranquilla, Atlántico. It was founded in 1966 by a business group led by Karl C. Parrish. It started academic operation on July 11, 1966, with 58 students and 10 teachers in core courses of business administration and engineering.
According to a recent ranking of the best universities in Colombia, "Universidad del Norte" is listed among the five best universities in Colombia.
The university consists of ten academic divisions, including Engineering, Administrative Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Legal Sciences and Basic Sciences.
The university offers degrees in industrial, mechanical, systems, civil, electrical and electronic engineering, Medicine, Business Administration, Law, Psychology, International Relations, International Business, Math, Industrial Design, Graphic Design and Architecture, among others. In total, the university offers 22 undergraduate programs, 69 professional specialization programs, 37 Master's programs, and 6 doctoral programs. The University also offers some specialization programs in Santa Marta.
All engineering programs (Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanic Engineering and Systems Engineering) are accredited by the ABET, which is one of the most important international accreditation agencies, located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

The University of los Andes (Spanish: Universidad de los Andes), also commonly self-styled as Uniandes, is a private research university located in the city centre of Bogotá, Colombia. Founded in 1948 by a group of Colombian intellectuals led by Mario Laserna Pinzón, it was the first Colombian university established as nonsectarian (independent from any political party or religious institution). Uniandes has traditionally educated the Latin American academic elite, and is broadly considered to be one of the best universities in this region.

Along with Antioquia and Valle universities, it conforms what is known as the Golden Triangle of higher education in Colombia, being among the most selective and competitive universities in the country. A study by SCImago Research Group found it to be the Colombian university producing the largest number of scientific papers published in peer-refereed publications, and the 17th most prolific in Latin America. Furthermore, according to the Latinamerican Web Ranking of Universities, the National University of Colombia ranked in the first place of the country in internet presence, and among the first universities in the region. Regarding the CIVETS universities, the National University occupied the fifth place.
