MOZART Divertimento No. 2*
SCHOENBERG Variations for Orchestra
STRAUSS Ein Heldenleben
Franz Welser-Möst brings together a feast of musical delights from Central Europe’s rich symphonic history. Mozart’s charming Divertimento, written when the composer was only 16, is a canvas for the composer’s restless and enthralling invention. Conversely, Stauss’s tone poem, Ein Heldenleben, is a riveting sketch of the hero’s journey. In between, Schoenberg’s revolutionary Variations for Orchestra sets out the composer’s new vision for music in the 20th century.
