convergence-continuum opens its 2012 Season with the Ohio premiere of The Hyacinth Macaw, described as "a lyrical, beautiful and strangely comic tale" by Mac Wellman.

This is the first production of convergence-continuum’s three-play series “Cosmic Conundrums Curiously Considered.”* Each play in the series deals with big issues (our place in the universe, relationship to the infinite, existence itself) in a different, cutting-edge, engaging manner:  from the dense linguistic gymnastics of poet/playwright Mac Wellman’s The Hyacinth Macaw, to Craig Wright’s space/time-bending dark comedy Grace, to the camp hilarity of Buddy Thomas and Kenneth Elliott’s Devil Boys from Beyond.

Gradual, on the banks of Bug River, is a quiet American town.  Ray and Dora are slightly uneasy American parents raising their precocious teenage daughter Susannah. When a mysterious  stranger, Mr. William Hard, arrives from The Land of Evening with news that Ray is a "duplicate," “a pneumatic redundancy” and must be replaced, their entire world is turned upside-down. Mac Wellman's surreal/absurdist 1994 play The Hyacinth Macaw presents a fast-paced comedy contained inside a sumptuous linguistic adventure.

The Hyacinth Macaw is directed by converge-continuum Artistic Director, Clyde Simon, with Assistant Director, Cory Molner, and features company actors Lucy Bredeson-Smith, Zak Hudak, Michael Regnier, Lauren B. Smith and Clyde Simon.

The Hyacinth Macaw  opens Friday, March 16 and runs at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through April 7 at the Liminis, 2438 Scranton Rd., Cleveland, OH 44113.  Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors and $10 for students.  For reservations and information visit www.convergence-continuum.org or call 216-687-0074.
