Verb presents the community dance program open house at the new Verb Ballets Center for Dance on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 2:00-5:00pm. The Verb Ballet Center for Dance, located at 3558 Lee Road in Shaker Heights inside The Dealership, is the new home for the professional dance company and community dance program.
Verb Ballets announces new offerings in its dance classes focused on opportunities for youth! Beginning in January these programs will aim to nurture a love of dance as an art form and healthy activity. We welcome the community in studio for the open house featuring free class samplers, meet and greet with teachers, studio tours and a special performance by the Adverb Project.
Classes in Creative Movement and Ballet will help kids build a strong foundation for dance by improving coordination, strength, flexibility, musicality and good teamwork! Meet the teachers at the open house and bring children to try a class. Class samplers are organized by age: Creative Movement (Ages 3-4) at 2:00pm, Kids Pre-Ballet Class (Ages 5-6) at 2:30pm and Ballet I Class (Ages 7-9) at 4:00pm and Parent Child Creative Movement (18 month - 3 years old with caregiver) at 4:30pm.
Verb Ballets welcomes teens and adults with its Dance For Everyone Community Dance Program offering a diverse array of classes seven days a week including ballet, stretch and jazz. The Dance for Everyone Program allows people to nurture wellness, create a sense of identity and expression through dance and participate in healthy exercise. The program provides classes on an ongoing and drop-in basis. Two sample adult classes will be offered at the open house including New to Ballet at 2:30pm and Musical Theater Jazz at 4:00pm with Tony award winning dancer, David Alvarez.
To celebrate the new class schedule Verb Ballets will offer a free Street Jazz Masterclass from 3:00-4:00pm taught by Broadway dancer, Brandon Leffler, most recently in the cast of Wicked. He has performed on Broadway and Off Broadway including On the Town, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Trip of Love, Fanny, and Anyone Can Whistle. Leffler has also toured with the national tours of Wicked, A Chorus Line, and Cats.
An extension of Verb Ballets' community dance program, The Adverb Project is a performance ensemble comprised of adult learners. The Adverb Project will perform during the community open house at 2:00pm and 4:30pm. Led by Artistic Associate Director, Richard Dickinson, the project offers ongoing workshops to learn choreography and performance technique.
