A record-setting number of 64 area high school and college students are GOING BLONDE this week at Victoria Theatre Association's Broadway University.

Victoria Theatre Association's J.P. Morgan Broadway University, in conjunction with the Chase Broadway Series presentation of LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL, began Tuesday, June 16 with the largest-ever attendance in the Broadway University's three year history. "We had an amazing interest in GOING BLONDE," says VTA Education and Outreach Manager David Brush, "The camp sold out in less than two days with a waiting list of 25 more students...it gives local musical theatre students a chance to strut their stuff and a great opportunity for our kids in Dayton to get feedback from professionals who work in the field."

2009 Wayne High School graduate Jessica Aveyard attended the J.P. Morgan Broadway University with CHICAGO's cast and could not wait to attend GOING BLONDE. "[The camp] is a good chance to work with people in the business who have ‘made it' and achieved their dream, plus they know how to get there." Jessica currently has a scholarship in graphic design to Sinclair Community College, after she obtains her degree she plans to transfer to the University of Oklahoma to study musical theatre. GOING BLONDE focused on training the musical theatre student in a variety of ways as well as giving them the opportunity to attend master classes with local instructors and members of the cast of LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL. This three-day camp works with students on vocal, dance and theatre technique and application along with resume and audition coaching.

Instructors from the LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL cast were Rhiannon Hansen, a finalist in the MTV reality series: "LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL: THE SEARCH FOR ELLE WOODS" and stars as Margot in the tour, and Tally Sessions who plays Aaron in the tour and understudies Emmett. Local Instructors from Wright State University and Rhythm in Shoes spent an extensive amount of time working with the campers. At the end of the camp, the group will attend the Thursday night performance where they get the chance to see their instructors in action on the Schuster Center Stage.

Students attending the camp were from the following local schools: Anna HS, Wayne HS, Beavercreek HS, Carroll HS, Springboro, Lehman, Miami Valley School, Kettering MS, St. Albert school, Fairborn HS, Fairmont, Ursuline Academy, Stivers School for the Arts, Franklin HS, Alter HS, St. Peter school, Northmont MS, Northmont HS, Tippecanoe, Seneca Valley MS, Chaminade-Julienne, Twin Valley, Oakwood HS, Wapakoneta HS, Greenon HS, Troy HS, Centerville HS, Xenia schools, Brookville HS, Bellbrook HS and Trotwood schools.

The 2010 Broadway University will take place in June 2010 when PHANTOM OF THE OPERA comes to Dayton and will feature the same format with actors from the PHANTOM cast. Registration will begin in January 2010.
