David Sedaris' THE SANTALAND DIARIES is coming to PlayhouseSquare's intimate 14th Street Theatre this holiday season. The Santaland Diaries, the retelling of best-selling author David Sedaris' unique experience in the throes of the holidays, will be produced by Cleveland Public Theatre in 14th Street Theatre, November 26 through December 19, 2010.

The Santaland Diaries is the story of a 33-year-old slacker who takes a job as Crumpet, a Macy's Christmas elf. As thousands of customers come through his display, our elf teaches parents and children the realities of holiday cheer, sure to bring a smile to even the grouchiest face! The New York Times says THE SANTALAND DIARIES is a story of the surreal daily ritual of ushering children and their parents to visit a department store Santa Claus, which casts a cool but oddly compassionate eye on the behavior of frayed families and his fellow employees, who ranged from out-of-work actors to displacEd White-collar workers who never suspected a green velvet suit in their future.

THE SANTALAND DIARIES has become a holiday tradition in northeast Ohio. The show has been produced and presented by Cleveland Public Theatre since 2005. Yet in a unique partnership between PlayhouseSquare and Cleveland Public Theatre, the production moves to PlayhouseSquare's 14th Street Theatre for the first time in its history. Raymond Bobgan, Executive Artistic Director of Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) commented, "this PlayhouseSquare partnership is a fantastic opportunity for CPT to reach a broader audience and expose CPT to patrons who may not have previously experienced our adventurous approach to theatre."

THE SANTALAND DIARIES is produced by Cleveland Public Theatre, written by NPR favorite David Sedaris ('Me Talk Pretty One Day', 'Barrel Fever', 'Naked'), adapted by Joe Mantello (WICKED, ASSASSINS), directed by Lisa Ortenzi (Great Lakes Theater Festival) and once again stars Doug Kusak.

THE SANTALAND DIARIES performs November 26 - December 19, 2010 in the 14th Street Theatre at PlayhouseSquare. Performance times are Thursday & Friday evenings at 7:30 PM; Saturdays at 5 PM & 8:30 PM; and Sundays at 2 PM. Tickets for THE SANTALAND DIARIES are on sale now and range from $20 - $30 and can be purchased by calling 216-241-6000, online at www.playhousesquare.org or at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office. Group orders may be placed by calling 216-664-6050.
