The PlayhouseSquare Community Engagement & Education Department is now accepting applications for five teen programs - STAR Interns, STAR Leaders, STAR Reporters, Students Take A Role at the Square (STARS) and Teen Advisory Council. Applications are available online at playhousesquare.org/community or by calling 216-348-7909.

"We've developed these programs to give teens an inside look at the performing arts industry," said Colleen Porter, director of community engagement & education. "They give us their time, energy and enthusiasm and we aim to have them leave with an understanding of all that goes into presenting a performance. The students build communication skills and gain awareness of the variety of career paths available in the performing arts."

STAR Interns

STAR internships are designed for high school seniors with a desire to learn about the performing arts industry and can fulfill service learning credit requirements. Interns assist in all areas of event management. Applications are due January 8.

STAR Reporters

STAR Reporters review KeyBank Broadway Series at PlayhouseSquare performances just like professional critics. Students selected for this role receive admission to Press Night for all KeyBank Broadway Series shows and are expected to post their reviews to a Facebook or MySpace page (or similar) or to a blog. Training is provided. Applicants must submit a writing sample and be able to meet strict deadlines. Only 10 STAR Reporter roles are available to teens ages 14-19 who live in Northeast Ohio. Applications are due October 1.

STARS and STAR Leaders

The STARS volunteer program provides Northeast Ohio teens ages 14-19 with on-the-job training in customer service and the performing arts combined with an opportunity to give back to the community. STARS have the choice of ushering at Saturday evening, Sunday matinee or Sunday evening KeyBank Broadway Series and U.S. Bank Star Performances Series shows. The STAR Leader program is open to teens ages 16-19 who have participated in the STARS program for at least one year. Applications are due October 1.

Teen Advisory Council

The PlayhouseSquare Teen Advisory Council is open to teens ages 14-19 who live in Northeast Ohio and have participated in a PlayhouseSquare Teen Program for at least one year. This group is charged with reviewing and making recommendations regarding programs and policies that affect the teen audience at PlayhouseSquare. Applications are due August 31.

PlayhouseSquare understands its vital role as an educator in our community, and is committed to providing arts learning opportunities of the highest quality to enrich the lives of students, families, teachers and adults. PlayhouseSquare's Community Engagement & Education Department is unique in the performing arts industry for the variety of programs it offers, the partnerships it initiates and the access it provides students, educators and aspiring artists to performing arts professionals. Since its inception in 1998, the Community Engagement & Education Department has offered thousands of events, workshops, classes and more, most with minimal or no fees, to people of all ages from all areas of Northeast Ohio. The generous support of individual and corporate donors and foundations makes it all possible.
