PlayhouseSquare's free monthly theater tours traditionally skip the month of December...but not this year!  Saturday, December 4th--to showcase the theaters decorated in their holiday finest--volunteer Red Coats will conduct free indoor tours from 10 am - Noon.  Each tour guest will receive a stocking stuffer: the collectible "Angel of the Allen Theatre" ornament.

Tours begin from the State Theater Lobby (1519 Euclid. Ave.) at 10 am, and depart from that location at 15-minute intervals, with the last tour leaving at 11:30 am.  No reservations are needed for individual participants, but groups of 10-or-more are asked to call ahead at 216.771.4444 so arrangements can be made for their group.

Special $2.00 parking will be available for tour guests in The PlayhouseSquare Parking Garage (Chester Ave. at E. 15th across from the Greyhound Bus Station.)

Peeks backstage and from the stage, along with fascinating facts and anecdotes from the past 89 years, make Playhouse Square's Free Theater Tours an engaging morning for theater buffs, students of art or architecture, and children of all ages.  All that is required is a good pair of walking shoes and about two hours.

Among the many interesting PlayhouseSquare facts, guest will learn:
The eight stages that comprise The Playhouse Square complex qualify it as the largest performing arts center outside New York.
Playhouse Square is also the "largest theater restoration project in the world."
The State Theatre Lobby is famous in art circles as the home of four iconic murals by famous American modernist James Daugherty (the last Daugherty works that remain in the original location in which they were painted).

Free tours of Playhouse Square's historic 1921 theaters are conducted only on the first Saturday of each month.  The 2011 free tour schedule will begin January 7th.

Private tours on other days and hours are also available for companies, social and church groups or high school reunion groups, and may be arranged by calling 216.771.4444.
