Broadway Summer Camps for teens ages 14-19 at PlayhouseSquare feature one-of-a-kind opportunities to work with cast and crew members from touring Broadway productions. This year, the PlayhouseSquare Arts Education Department is offering two camps with cast and crew members from Disney's Mary Poppins.
"We are in a unique position to connect students with professionals who are living their dreams," explained Colleen Porter, director of arts education at PlayhouseSquare. "They share what it is really like to audition for a musical; work with a director, choreographer, and musicians; go on tour; perform eight shows a week...everything that happens along the route to Broadway."
The Broadway Summer Camp and the Advanced Broadway Summer Camp are scheduled for July 27-31. Both camps focus on the triple threat of musical theater - acting, singing and dancing - and feature master classes led by the professionals, a ticket to a performance of Mary Poppins at PlayhouseSquare, a professional headshot and lunch each day. The registration fee for each camp is $400.
The advanced camp is geared for those students who are preparing to perform in college or professionally; auditions are required. A $15 audition fee, payable by credit card, is required to schedule an audition. The audition fee is non-refundable, but will be applied to the camp registration fee if selected.
Those interested should call 216-348-7909 to register or schedule an audition. More information is available online at www.playhousesquare.org/artseducation.
Camps are held in the Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Cleveland's Theater District at 1375 Euclid Avenue. Parking is available in the PlayhouseSquare parking garage, the Hanna parking garage and various surface lots in the area.
Mary Poppins, the Tony award-winning musical about the world's most famous nanny, makes its Cleveland premiere at PlayhouseSquare for a three week engagement July 17-August 9, 2009. Tickets for the show go on sale to the public on Monday, April 20. Mary Poppins is part of the KeyBank Broadway Series at PlayhouseSquare.
