For two weekends, Olmsted Performing Arts (OPA) - http://www.olmstedperformingarts.com - in Olmsted Falls will present an entire stage full of sugary sweetness to make you and your family smile. OPA will present the high-energy, delightful "Disney and Cameron MacKintosh's Mary Poppins" May 8 - 10 and May 15 - 17.
"Disney and Cameron MacKintosh's Mary Poppins" tells the story of a nanny in England in the early 1900s. She brings magic and memorable adventures to the lives of Jane and Michael Banks. The musical is based on a book by P.L. Travers which was made into a classic Walt Disney film. The musical has been performed thousands of times and won numerous awards, including a TONY Award for best Broadway musical.
The musical features large, fun dance numbers, fantastic flying FX and well known songs like "A Spoonful of Sugar," and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." Mary Poppins is a practically perfect nanny that leads Jane and Michael on magical and memorable adventures, shares wise advice and encourages everyone to be open to all the great possibilities of life.
"Mary Poppins is a great show for the entire family, it is fun and funny and heartfelt," says Director Angela Boehm, the artistic director at OPA. "This show will have some audience members singing along and remembering when they first saw Mary Poppins, and younger ones will be smiling and dazzled seeing the fun and exciting world of Mary Poppins for the first time."
Mary Poppins will be played by Rachel Anderson, a regional favorite and star of past OPA shows like "Jekyll and Hyde" and "The Wizard of Oz,"; chimney sweep Bert will be played by OPA acting teacher and former New York actor Shane Patrick O'Neill; Michael Banks will be played by Michael Ryan Boehm and Jane Banks will be played by Jade Mcgee, additional cast and crew members include paid professionals.
The OPA production of "Disney and Cameron MacKintosh's Mary Poppins" will be directed by Boehm, with choreography by Megan Nicole and Abbi Cavanaugh, musical directing by Judy Crandall and music conduction by Tim Strelau.
"Disney and Cameron MacKintosh's Mary Poppins" show times are at 7 p.m. May 8, 9, 15 and 16, and at 2 p.m. May 10 and 17.
