MadLab Theatre is extending its outreach to young playwrights in local and regional high schools in Central Ohio. The goal is to produce a group of 15 minute short plays written by high school students for its Young Writers Short Play Festival in MadLab's 2012 theatre season. Playwrights can submit their short play to MadLab any time between now and December 1, 2011. Scripts will be selected in January 2012. After this, playwrights will work with known and published playwrights as adult mentors to workshop, stage read, and revise scripts as needed. This learning environment will provide education and creativity for young playwrights work to be produced for the very first time. MadLab will then produce all chosen scripts July 27- August 11

What is Roulette?
The unique style and long running history of MadLab's Theatre Roulette and its ability to involve a large number of artists is what inspired MadLab to produce the Young Writers Short Play Festival. It is also in the spirit of MadLab's mission to provide "an artistic haven for the creation and experience of original works."

Theatre Roulette is also a festival of short plays and has been produced for 12 years. It is MadLab's most popular production. Short works are popular with audiences and are an entry point for emerging playwrights.

The festival is scheduled to allow for each play to run every night of the 3 week theatre run.

Why did we come to you?

We would like to provide an opportunity for students to work with locally produced playwrights to develop their work, and see their piece produced at a local downtown theatre. We believe central Ohio students have talents and abilities that need to be fostered and developed through these types of community partnerships. They will be able to work from the classroom while we help them through workshops and the production process. Additionally, the Young Writers Short Play Festival's education process will help the students as they create a writing resume and create experience they can use in future writing endeavors.

Below are the submission requirements and also a timeline for the Young Writers Short Play Festival project. Please help us continue promoting the arts to students throughout the community through this program.

1. PDF or MS Word format.
