Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland's Classic Company, will present a "sensory-friendly" matinee performance of its 25th anniversary production of A Christmas Carol for children and adults on the autism spectrum and their families at the Ohio Theatre, PlayhouseSquare on Wednesday, November 27th at 11:00 a.m. Coordinated in partnership with Theatre Development Fund: Autism Theatre Initiative, the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Milestones Autism Organization, the exclusive performance for patrons on the autism spectrum is the first professional theater offering of its kind in the state of Ohio.
"We strive to bring the pleasure, power and relevance of classic theater to all of our region's residents...and this special performance is further proof of our company's 50-year commitment to pioneering innovative programming that connects our community," said Kelly Schaffer Florian, GLT's Director of Educational Services of the company's sensory-friendly matinee. "We are grateful to our partners for helping us to create a welcoming and memorable experience for children and adults on the autism spectrum...as well as for their family members. At this performance, special accommodations will be made, including a supportive audience environment, designated quiet areas, adjustments to light and sound levels...and online pre-performance materials to assist families in preparing before their visit."
