Renowned organist Todd Wilson sets the stage for the first movie in the series lineup: The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog. On Friday, October 26, just in time for Halloween, Wilson improvises music for Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1920 silent thriller about the hunt for a "Jack the Ripper"-like serial killer in London - live on Severance Hall's grand Norton Memorial Organ. This never-before-heard performance brings Hitchcock's movie masterpiece to life for a unique evening of haunting music and spellbinding storytelling.

Trivia Fact: Alfred Hitchcock appears sitting at a desk in the newsroom while operating a telephone with his back to the camera (5:33 minutes into the film) - his first of the film cameos that become a standard practice for the remainder of his films. This first cameo happened purely by circumstance - the actor who was supposed to play the part of the telephone operator failed to show up, and Hitchcock filled the breach.

Travel to the postwar period of the 1950s in the groundbreaking film Rebel Without a Cause, Friday, March 1 at Severance Hall. Featuring a score by Leonard Rosenman that is widely considered to have revolutionized film music, Nicholas Ray's cult-classic about rebellious American youth culture - starring James Dean, Sal Mineo, and Natalie Wood - is a timeless landmark drama. The Cleveland Orchestra accompanies this evening of silver screen magic.

Trivia Fact: Composer Leonard Rosenman was roommates with James Dean and was teaching him to play the piano. It was Dean who suggested director Elia Kazan ask Rosenman to score his film East of Eden, Dean's first major film. That project led to Rosenman also scoring Rebel Without a Cause.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a Steven Spielberg sci-fi favorite, concludes the series on Sunday, April 28. Boasting one of the most iconic five-note sequences in movie history, with John Williams's remarkable musical score and Spielberg's uncanny eye for direction, Close Encounters of the Third Kind remains one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. The third feature film by a young Alfred Hitchcock, this silent film is generally acknowledged to be the one where he truly found his distinctive style of suspense, menace, macabre humor, and brilliant, elegant camerawork that assured his place among cinema's giants. The suspenseful hunt is on for a "Jack the Ripper"-like serial killer in London: the new lodger (Ivor Novello) seems ideal ... quiet, humble, and pays a month's rent in advance. But his mysterious and suspicious behavior soon has them wondering if he's the killer terrorizing local blond girls.

Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), is an ordinary man, an electrical lineman who experiences a close encounter with an unidentified flying object. Increasingly obsessed with this unexplained phenomenon, Roy is drawn to a series of seemingly random strangers, each of whom has come in contact with similar UFOs, eventually making his way to Devil's Tower in Wyoming, where he finds the answers he seeks and where his life is forever changed.

The Severance Hall Ticket Office is located on street level in the Smith Lobby. The entrance and 15-minute Ticket Service parking are located along the west side of the building, on East Boulevard. Severance Hall Ticket Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. From September through May, the Ticket Office is also open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed Sundays and holidays except for those days with performances, when the Ticket Office will be open three hours prior to each performance).
