Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is proud to announce the first annual ENTRY POINT - A New Play Development Festival, the first of CPT's three-part New Play Development series. ENTRY POINT is a new platform for artists to develop their work in the Early Stages of creation, then share that work with the public in an interactive forum.
Featuring works-in-progress by a dozen Northeast Ohio theatre artists, devisors, playwrights and composers, ENTRY POINT invites audience members to engage with the creative process through staged readings, short excerpts from theatrical works-in-progress, open rehearsals, guest panel discussions - and the opportunity for audience members to participate in facilitated feedback sessions with artists after every showing.
Ticket buyers will receive an all-access day or weekend pass and guide to ENTRY POINT activities, allowing visitors to chart their own experience and sample numerous new works each night, performed concurrently on 6 stages located throughout CPT's main building.
As part of Entry Point, CPT will host FREE panel discussions on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm and 3:30pm, featuring guest artistic leaders from the field of New Play Development. No ticket required to attend. Topics will include Diverse Voices in New Play Development, The National New Play Network, The New Play Exchange, and more. Panel description and guest artist bios will be made available via the CPT website.
CPT is an established leader in cultivating new work by local talent
CPT has led the community in producing new plays by local and nationally recognized playwrights. In just the past ten years, CPT produced 81 staged readings and showcases, 107 workshop productions and 42 full productions of world premieres-in addition to the hundreds of shorter plays read and workshopped through CPT's Dark Room programming, or the 50+ community-created shows produced through CPT's education programs.
According to CPT's Executive Artistic Director, Raymond Bobgan: "CPT's 2016-2017 season features an expanded approach and doubling-down of our ongoing investment towards supporting artists developing adventurous new work. The blend of structure and customization, the range of opportunities to engage at multiple points in the process, the volume of work we intend to support, and the welcoming environment for work that is outside the mainstream make CPT's New Play Development program exceptional in approach and scope."
