Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) and Teatro Publico de Cleveland present the US premiere of UZ, EL PUEBLO by playwright Gabriel Calderón. The production is directed by Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble member Dante Fernando Larzabal and will be performed in Spanish by Teatro Publico ensemble members.

Following their acclaimed production of Gabriel Calderón's Mi Muñequita in 2015, Teatro Publico de Cleveland-CPT's resident Latin American Theatre ensemble-returns to the stage with a second Spanish language production penned by the Uruguayan playwright. UZ, EL PUEBLO is a delirious dark comedy that revolves around a provincial woman, Grace, who has been ordered by God to prove her devotion by performing a heinous act against her family. The resulting chain of events is a wickedly satirical romp exploring religious faith, family bonds and small town dynamics. UZ, EL PUEBLO playwright Gabriel Calderón is quickly establishing himself across Latin America and beyond with his edgy, dark dramas and satire, which often tackle themes of familial dysfunction, violence, class, religious fanaticism and sexual fantasy.

The cast of UZ, EL PUEBLO includes Kivin Bauzó, Rafael Rivera, Lorna McLain, Blanca Salva, Gilberto Peña, Magdalena Godinez Ríos, Ernesto Luna Camargo, Hillary Wheelock and M?nica A. Cerpa Zúñiga.

The production team includes Dante Fernando Larzabal (Director), Faye Hargate (Line Producer), Natividad Uehara (Assistant Director), Colleen McCaughey (Stage Manager), Inda Blatch-Geib (Costume Designer), Benjamin Gantose (Lighting Designer), T. Paul Lowry (Scenic and Video Designer), Daniel McNamara** (Composer and Sound Designer) and Luis Ramirez-Alonzo (Sound Board Operator). **2015/16 Kulas Composer Fellow

UZ, EL PUEBLO will be performed for two weekends, Thursday, March 10th through Saturday, March 19th. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday shows will be at 7:00pm. **Due to graphic language, sexual references and situations, UZ, EL PUEBLO is recommended for mature audiences (ages 16+). The show will be performed, as written, in Spanish.

All performances will take place at Cleveland Public Theatre's Parish Hall venue, located on the east end of CPT's campus, located at 6415 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44102. Tickets are $12 - 25. Thursday and Monday performances are $12. Fridays and Saturdays are $25. Students/Senior received $3 off on Friday and Saturday nights. Every Friday is Free Beer Friday. In 2013, Cleveland Public Theatre launched Teatro Publico de Cleveland, a Cleveland-based Latin American theatre ensemble, whose work reflects the artistic goals, interests and ideals of its members. The purpose of this theatre ensemble is to share the rich diversity and perspectives of the Latino-Cleveland culture towards fulfilling CPT's core mission: to raise consciousness and nurture compassion through groundbreaking performance and life-changing educational programs. The ensemble of actors and creators has a broad range of experience, from amateur to professionally trained artists. A majority of members can trace heritage to Puerto Rico, and there is representation from other countries of origin: Mexico, Uruguay, Guatemala, Peru, Nicaragua and Colombia. The ensemble was founded through a series of free public workshops presented by Cleveland Public Theatre, in partnership with Cleveland's Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, and its founding was supported by the Cleveland Foundation's Engaging the Future program.
