Convergence-Continuum Presents SAY YOU LOVE SATAN, Opens 9/3 at the Liminis

convergence-continuum, continues its 2010 Season at the Liminis theatre with the Ohio premiere of Say You Love Satan, a sinfully comic tale of temptation, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Talk about the boyfriend from hell! One part Dostoyevsky, two parts horror film, one part Revelations, and a big dash of queer culture, Say You Love Satan is a devilish romantic comedy that is smart, hip, literate and hilarious. Andrew, an affable grad student researching Dostoevsky, has the perfect med-student boyfriend, but one night at the laundromat he meets a handsome stranger named Jack. Andrew is immediately smitten as Jack removes his shirt to add it to the wash. Intrigued, Andrew starts dating Jack. But what's a guy to do when the hunk he's dating turns out to be the Anti-Christ's son? "Packed with sly pokes at psychobabble, horror tropes, and real-life sex in the city, the script keeps raining zingers." -East Bay Express.

Say You Love Satan is directed by convergence-continuum's Artistic Director Clyde Simon and features company actors Scott Gorbach as Andrew, Stuart Hoffman, Tyson Rand, Lauren B. Smith and Tony Thai., plus newcomers to the Liminis stage, Zac Hudak and Lucas Roberts as Jack. Designers include Cory Molnar (lights), sade wolfkitten (sound), Mitch Domer (costumes) and Tom Kondilas (video). Stage Manager is Stephanie Bahnij.

Say You Love Satan opens Friday, Sept. 3 and runs at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 25 at the Liminis, 2438 Scranton Rd., Cleveland, OH 44113.  The Playwright: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama and has written many plays, including The Muckle Man (two Helen Hayes Award nominations), Dark Matters, Based on a Totally True Story, The Mystery Plays, The Velvet Sky, Rough Magic, The Weird (an evening of short pulpy plays) The King of Shadows and a new stage adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Grey. His early comedies Golden Age and Say You Love Satan (2003 Excellence in Playwriting Award from the NYC Fringe Festival) were both nominated for GLAAD Media Awards. Additionally, Aguirre-Sacasa proudly writes The Fantastic Four and Spider-Man for Marvel Comics and is developing Dark Matters into a horror screenplay for Warner Brothers.

The Play: Say You Love Satan

Say You Love Satan received its world premiere at Dad's Garage Theatre Company in Atlanta, Georgia, opening on September 14. 2001. It was subsequently produced at the Yale Cabaret in New Haven, Connecticut, opening on October 18, 2001. Since then it has been produced in New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles and elsewhere throughout the country .

The convergence-continuum production of Say You Love Satan is its Ohio premiere and is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

The Company: convergence-continuum

convergence-continuum was founded in 2001 by Clyde Simon (Artistic Director) and Brian Breth. After completion of the renovations of the Liminis, the company's artistic home in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, into an intimate, versatile, storefront performance space, the company then transformed it into an 18th century French asylum for its first production, Quills by Doug Wright, in August 2002. For the company's second production (Oct. 2002), the Liminis was converted into a junkyard outside the city of Azusa for a four-weekend run of Sam Shepard's The Unseen Hand. Since then, the company has continued to produce alternative/experimental theatre work, and to completely transform the Liminis for each show, immersing audiences in the world of the play in up-close productions. (Maximum seating is 40-50 depending on the set-up for each show.)

Say You Love Satan, the company's 36th production, is the fourth of six in the 2010 Season (our ninth). The company's season runs March - December, with a hiatus over the Winter.

Nearly all of the cast and crew of Say You Love Satan have been involved in previous convergence-continuum productions in many and various capacities. The company seeks to create a core ensemble that continues to work together over the long term in exploring and developing its artistic voice, and performance and production practices to create up-close, environmentally staged productions that challenge the status quo and extend the boundaries of theatre.
