The Canton Museum of Art (CMA), supported by Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland State University, Columbus College of Art & Design, Kent State University's School of Art, Malone University, The University of Akron's Myers School of Art, University of Mount Union, and Walsh University, presents the 28th annual Stark County High School Art Exhibit, on view March 20 through April 7, 2019, in the Museum's lower galleries.
The Stark County High School Art Exhibition is an excellent platform for aspiring, teenage artists to have their work exhibited in a museum setting. All pieces presented are original works created as part of each participating school's curriculum and chosen by the school's art instructor. Works are judged on both originality and technical ability.
Over 100 pieces will be on display from Alliance City Schools, Canton City Schools, Canton Local Schools, Fairless Local Schools, Jackson Local Schools, Lake Center Christian School, Lake Local School District, Louisville City Schools, Minerva Local Schools, North Canton City Schools, Northwest Local Schools, Perry Local Schools, Plain Local School District, Sandy Valley Local Schools, Summit Academy Secondary - Canton, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and Tuslaw Local School District.
An awards ceremony, with light refreshments, will be held on First Friday, April 6, from 5:00PM-8:00PM with over $5,500 in college financial awards presented to the First, Second and Third Place winners promptly at 6:00PM. 10 honorable mention awards will also be presented, with each winner receiving a scholarship for classes with the CMA's School of Art. Admission will be FREE to everyone from open until close (10:00AM - 8:00PM).
In addition to the First Friday reception, the Canton Museum of Art's in-school program, Museum To Go, will be hosting a "School's Night Out" in the CMA classrooms from 5:00PM - 8:00PM. Over 50 local 4th grade classes will have their Museum To Go projects displayed. In addition to FREE admission guests will enjoy hands-on art activities, access to the Stark County High School Art Exhibit, refreshments and more.
