Beck Center Dance Presents THE FAIRY DOLL ImageBeck Center's Dance Education program proudly presents a magical production of the classic ballet The Fairy Doll, March 16-18. Show times are 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 17, and 1 p.m. Sunday, March 18. Performances will be held in the Mackey Theater. Student matinees will take place at 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Friday, March 23. Tickets are on sale now at 216.521.2540 x10 or beckcenter.org.

The Fairy Doll was first staged in Russia in 1897. This one act ballet in two scenes was originally created by Nikolai and Sergei Legat and features the music of Josef Bayer, as well as music by Tchaikovsky, Gottschalk, Liadov, and Drigo. Additional choreography by Melanie Szucs, Associate Director of Dance Education. The story begins in what may seem like any other Toy Shoppe in town, but as the doors close and the night falls...a bit of magic envelopes the store! With the townspeople fast asleep in bed, the toys awaken for a night of enchantment. The production will feature 75 students, ages 8-18, from Beck's dance department. Also included on the program will be excerpts from Act 1 of Paquita performed by Beck Center Dance Workshop. Beck Center's 2015 production of The Fairy Doll was performed in front of sold-out audiences.

A sensory-friendly performance of The Fairy Doll will also be staged for audience members with special needs on Sunday, March 18 at 4 p.m. "This performance will be an inclusive and safe environment for those with special needs, and is a meaningful way to open yet another door to arts participation for many in our community," remarked Beck Center's Director of Education, Ed Gallagher. For additional information about this special production, please contact Ed Gallagher at 216.521.2540 x12.
