Beavercreek Community Theatre will hold open auditions for "The Dixie Swim Club" at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the theater, located within the the Lofino Adult Enrichment and Cultural Arts Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek.
Production dates for the touching, yet hilarious, comedy, directed by
Greg Smith, are Oct. 23 through Nov. 1.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
"The Dixie Swim Club" has roles for five women. They were teammates on the same college swim team and graduated in 1954. The play begins 22 years after their graduation, in 1976, and ends 33 years later, in 2009.
The characters age 33 years during the show, from early 40's to early 70's and those chosen for the parts must be able to act within that range.
The five Southern women have set aside a long weekend every August since college to meet at a beach cottage to recharge their relationships. The comedy, written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, centers around their enduring friendship and teamwork, especially when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives.
The roles include:
Sheree - Swim team captain, practical, supportive and a fount of energy.
Dinah - Wise cracking cynic, a lawyer who excels in everything but romance.
Lexie - Southern Belle, a vain and youth obsessed event planner, a man magnet.
Jeri Neal - A Ditzy ray of sunshine, perky and naïve, formerly a Nun.
Vernadette - A hard luck case, a school teacher with a problematic home life.
